Thomsonfly.com supports The International Children’s Games

14.06.2005 While eyes turn to Singapore from 6 July 2005 for the IOC Olympic 2012 decision, Thomsonfly.com will be supporting the World’s Olympians of the future at the International Children’s Games, held this year in Coventry from 6 - 11 July.

Thomsonfly.com is proud to support the games, which this year will see over 2,000 competitors, officials and delegates spanning 50 nations and five continents taking part. Founded by Yugoslavian Professor Metod Klemenc to promote peace and friendship in 1968, each team today represents a city across the world with up to 40 competitors, challenging to win medals in athletics, swimming, tennis, football etc. UK teams taking part are from Coventry, Manchester, Leeds and Derby in England; Tralee in Ireland; Abervan in Wales and Hamilton in Scotland.

Maria Heckel, marketing director of Thomsonfly.com comments “Coventry is the home of the airline and we’re delighted to be supporting the local community as the official airline partner for the games. It’s fantastic that so many children will get to use Coventry’s excellent facilities, including a new football stadium, sports arena and rugby stadium and we’re delighted to see so much enthusiasm from children from around the world.”

Maria continues, "The flights services we offer enable local people to go further by offering flights from their local airport to a range of destinations. In the same way by sponsoring the Children's Games, we want to enable local children to also go further by helping them to aspire to and achieve their goals."

As the official airline of the Games sponsorship support from Thomsonfly.com will include t-shirts and baseball caps for all those involved, as well as advertising and foreign exchange support and a branded double-decker bus. Many competing teams will be arriving into Coventry Airport, perfect for young travellers, via Paris and Amsterdam as well as on direct flights.

Thomsonfly.com is the new name for the airline previously known as Britannia Airways. TUI UK launched the Thomsonfly brand with the launch of its low-cost flights from Coventry just over a year ago and now has a fleet of nine aircraft.
