Thomsonfly celebrates its 2nd birthday

16.12.2005 Low fares airline, Thomsonfly.com is gearing up to celebrate its second birthday this Friday (16 December 2005). To celebrate the two year anniversary of the launch of the low fares airline from the UK's largest travel company, Thomsonfly has a special offer, selling 222,222 seats at the cost of just the taxes and charges.

In December 2003 Thomson announced the birth of a new low fares airline offering high frequency flights to European city, beach and leisure destinations from Coventry Airport; which had catered for general aviation activities. The first 222,222 flights booked on Friday and Saturday with departures from Coventry, Doncaster and Bournemouth will be available at no cost other than the taxes and charges.

In its two years of being in business, Thomsonfly has grown from a low fares, high frequency operation from one small airport in the Midlands to now offering customers the chance to book flights from no less than eleven UK airports from the summer 2006 season - including the key UK airports - Manchester, Luton and Birmingham. The operation began with three Boeing 737 aircraft increasing to nine in 2004; five new aircraft will join the fleet for 2006.

Thomsonfly's low fares, high frequency flights currently operate from Coventry, Doncaster and Bournemouth to sixteen beach and city destinations (Alicante, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Faro, Gran Canaria, Ibiza, Jersey, Lyon, Malaga, Palma, Paris, Pisa, Prague, Salzburg, Tenerife and Valencia). Flights are now on sale for Summer 2006 for departures through to next October.

As well as this rapid growth, the Thomsonfly brand has been so successful that it has now been adopted across the formally named Britannia fleet of 43 aircraft which has been long established as Thomson's holiday airline. Taking over from such a well known and trusted brand was a big step forward for the relatively new airline brand. The low fares, high frequency operation continues to grow and is competing with the key players in this market.

Since first announcing that it was putting low fares, high frequency flights on sale back in December 2003, Thomsonfly has taken over 2,330,000 bookings and flown just under 2,000,000 people since operations began from Coventry in March 2004.

Unlike several of its low fares airline counterparts Thomsonfly does allow its customers to pre-book their seats at check in, avoiding the chaotic rush for seats to make sure friends, family and colleagues can sit together.
