Thomsonfly - 26 UK Airports to 87 Destinations

05.01.2006 The UK’s third largest airline Thomsonfly has today announced that its entire flight programme from 26 UK airports will be sold at low fares for Summer 2006. The flights to short, medium and long haul destinations depart from an airport within a one hour drive of the majority of UK residents.

TUI UK’s low fares airline Thomsonfly.com began operating low fares flights from Coventry airport in March 2004. The success of the low fares flights prompted the company to introduce the brand across the entire fleet of aircraft, replacing the Britannia Airways name. Less than two years on Thomsonfly is now offering low fares to 87 destinations across the globe departing from 26 UK airports - more than any other airline.

The current national advertising campaign across TV, press and outdoor media will build awareness of Thomsonfly as a national airline brand and drive customers to book direct at it’s website at www.thomsonfly.com. Additionally the company has been marketing itself overseas to encourage inbound travel to the UK - a valuable opportunity for the business to grow its market. These steps signify the commitment of the parent company, TUI UK, to selling flights as a stand alone product, which is a significant step in the evolution of the business.

Managing director of TUI UK, Peter Rothwell, said, “Thomsonfly.com has evolved significantly since the brand was launched in December 2003. We are now delighted to be able to market our flights directly to the customer - providing them with the best fares for flights from their local airport to the places they want to travel to, whether it is for a holiday or visiting friends and relatives.”

Thomsonfly operates high frequency flights from the key airports in the UK to a range of European leisure destinations including Spain, cities such as Paris, Amsterdam and Salzburg, and a vast programme of medium and long haul flights to places from Agadir in Morocco and Brazil to Sharm el Sheikh and Varadero in Cuba. With long haul flights starting from only £119.99 - based on a one way fare to Orlando’s Sanford airport for the first time people will be able to travel on long haul flights at low fares from their local airport. Historically low fares flights have been short hops to European destinations, however TUI UK’s business model and aircraft fleet enable it to combine holiday flights and flight only passengers to be able to offer low fares to destinations across the five continents.

The move is responding to people’s desire to travel further from their local airport - for example Thomsonfly passengers can fly from Cardiff to Cancun - just one example of the airline’s 56 unique routes. Many of these unique flights are a much easier option that the equivalent journey by a traditional scheduled airline for example a journey from Cardiff to Cancun by scheduled flights would mean a drive to a London airport and flights via the United States. Thomsonfly’s route network is designed to cater for all leisure flying needs whether for holidays or visiting friends and family.

Other travel services and suppliers that can be booked on the website enable passengers to build their trip from parking at the airport through to airport transfers, accommodation, activities whilst away and in-flight extras. Thomson offers hotel beds from as little as £1 per night, which can be put together with a flight in a single transaction.

The new website at www.thomsonfly.com will also enable customers to make changes to bookings, pre-book meals and seat options as well as checking live flight arrival times supporting the company’s reputation for customer care and high standard of service.
