Over 1,500,000 bookings made since going on sale two years ago
Malaga and Jersey top destinations
More than 400 jobs created since the Coventry Thomsonfly operation began
This Friday (31 March) will mark the two year anniversary of the first Thomsonfly aircraft taking flight from Coventry Airport by giving away a plane’s worth of one way seats (148 seats) from Coventry for just 2p when booked online from 8am until midnight on the 31 March.
In its first two years of flying Thomsonfly has made over 1.5 million sector bookings through Coventry Airport. The airline has proved such a success that last year parent company TUI UK made the decision to extend the Thomsonfly name across the entire fleet of 48 aircraft, formerly branded Britannia Airways. Thomsonfly is now offering low fares flights to over 80 destinations from 24 UK airports - more UK departure points than any other airline – and it all began in Coventry.
Thomsonfly continues to fly to beach, city and ski destinations from Coventry with the most popular flight route currently being Malaga, closely followed by Jersey.
For the first time this summer Thomsonfly will also be making it possible to fly from the Midlands to Salzburg outside of the ski season. Salzburg is now a popular city break destination and this year plays host to a number of year round celebrations to mark the 250th anniversary of the birth of Mozart.
Since it started flying in March 2004, Thomsonfly has created over 400 jobs at the airport including cabin crew, pilots, managers, security, administration and other airport services.
Maria Heckel, marketing director for Thomsonfly, said; “This has been an incredibly important year for everyone at Thomsonfly with the continuing success of Coventry and then the introduction of flying from Bournemouth and Doncaster. Coventry is where it all began for Thomsonfly and we are happy to be able to continue to provide flights to such a great range of places from the local airport.”
Thomsonfly has always been committed to providing a high level of customer service and since the low fares airline was launched in 2004 from the airport it has offered passengers the opportunity to book extra legroom and always allocates seats at check in, unlike the majority of low fares airlines. Thomsonfly is always keen for customer feedback and last year 82% of passengers flying from Coventry rated cabin crew friendliness, and customer care as good or excellent and 80% when assessing Thomsonfly’s value for money.
