Thomsonfly looks to the future at Robin Hood Airport

03.11.2005 This week sees the start of Thomsonfly’s winter flight programme from Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield. The airport is now entering its seventh month of business since opening in April of this year and this is the first time winter season flights will operate out of Doncaster.

From 1 November the people of South Yorkshire will be able to take advantage of the new twice-weekly flights to Gran Canaria and three times a week service to Tenerife which is great news to all those looking for winter sunshine from their local airport. The average temperatures in the Canaries of 20 degrees and above through the winter months and 6 hours of sun on average per day are a great alternative to chilly UK temperatures and one or two hours of sunshine in a day. One way fares to these two Canary Island destinations start at £54.99, including taxes and charges.

Flights to Amsterdam will also start operating from Doncaster for the first time on 4 November. This is great news for both business travellers and those looking for a city break destination. One way fares to Amsterdam start at £19.99, including taxes and charges.

In addition to these winter sun and city break destinations December will see the start of the ski season and, in turn, flights from Doncaster to Lyon, France’s second city. Lyon is the gateway to the best skiing in France and for those who prefer a less active break the city is a great place to wine, dine and explore. One way fares for flights to Lyon start at just £22.99 including taxes and charges. Flights commence on 15 December.

Thomsonfly will also be continuing its flights to Malaga, Alicante, Paris, Faro, Jersey and Prague so there is plenty of opportunity for people to escape the depressing British winter and get away for a few days.

Maria Heckel, marketing director for Thomsonfly, said: “This is the first winter season Thomsonfly has flown out of Doncaster and encouraging booking figures since going on sale back in June shows that the new destinations of the Canary Islands and Lyon are already proving popular.”

Thomsonfly is also promising a substantial marketing drive over the coming months to drive more people to Doncaster from overseas. Maria Heckel continued: “ We are very keen to increase the number of people travelling on our inbound flights and we will be making an extra effort to promote Doncaster as a bustling historic northern town with great access to some of the most influential northern cities in the UK.”

Further to this, Thomsonfly has recently put on sale a selection of routes from Doncaster for the summer 2006 season including Malaga, Alicante, Palma, Ibiza, Faro and Prague. This is to allow early bird bookers to get the best deals possible from their local airport. More exciting new flights for next summer will go on sale by the end of the year.

In addition to the high frequency flights Thomsonfly will be operating holiday flights throughout the winter months to Costa Blanca, Costa Brava, Costa del Sol, Cyprus, Gran Canaria, Tenerife and Tunisia.
