Thomsonfly searches for musical star

12.01.2006 This year celebrates the 250th anniversary of the birth of one of the greatest composers of all time, Mozart. To mark this occasion Thomsonfly is appealing to budding classical musicians of Coventry and the surrounding regions to compete in an ‘X Factor’ style audition to win the chance to experience Mozart’s home city first hand.

The city of Salzburg will be hosting a whole year of special events and concerts top celebrate its most famous son and because of this Thomsonfly will be operating frequent flights to the city, from Coventry, for the whole of 2006.

Thomsonfly will be flying the successful ‘Classical Idol(s)’ out to Salzburg on the 27 January (Mozart’s Birthday) when they will get the chance to showcase their talent to other passengers by playing Mozart whilst passengers board the aircraft and during the flight. What better way to start a trip to Salzburg than to be serenaded onto the aircraft by the music of one of the greatest musical geniuses of all time.

The competition is open to soloists/duets/trios and quartets and the participants will be asked to perform their favourite Mozart piece to a panel of Thomsonfly judges. Auditions will take place on Thursday 19th January and the winning act will be announced on 20th. Wannabe contestants should enter by 5pm on Tuesday 17th January.

Marketing Director of Thomsonfly, Maria Heckel, said; “This is a great opportunity for talented musicians of the area to take centre stage for a day and Thomsonfly is proud to be joining with Salzburg in the city’s celebrations. This opportunity really helps to bring the destination to life and adds a little something extra to people’s holiday.”

Salzburg has often been nicknamed “Mozart City” and it’s not hard to see why. The winning musicians will have the opportunity to see Mozart’s birthplace and his tomb as well as his original instruments and portraits. It’s hard to ignore the fact that this was the great composer’s home town with statues and landmarks of Mozart at many street corners and square.

Thomsonfly first started flying to Salzburg from Coventry in November 2004 and the route has proved a big hit with both winter sports enthusiasts and those looking for a winter city break. Next May will also see the introduction of Salzburg into Coventry’s summer flying programme.

Thomsonfly flies X times a week from Coventry to Salzburg and one way fares start at £22.99 which includes taxes and charges.
